The best bang-for-the-buck upgrade is to add more ram. Then a bigger cpu if your board can handle it. I run 2Gbs of ram in my XP rigs and 4GB in my Vista rig. Also go into msconfig startup and uncheck the boxes for the progs you don’t need starting up and running all the time such as messengers, quicktime, itunes, realplayer etc. If you run Nortons anti-virus swap to a one that’s less of a memory hog such as AVG when your Nortons subscription runs out.
How slow is it now?
The first thing I would do is add more memory. Other things I consider doing are
– Remove programs that I do not need
– Stop services that I do not need
– Do not open too many programs at the same time
– Re-install Windows from scratch
– Buy a new and high spec PC
You can try:
*Use Disk Cleanup
*Defrag your computer
*Run error checking
*Do an antivirus checkhttp://www.microsoft.com/atwork/getstart…
Instructions on how to do each one =)
And also remove any programs you don’t use, and stop any start-up programs you don’t need.
Simple as 1…2…3. Defrag your hard drive; uninstall programs you no longer use but not the ones which keep the system stable; always use the refresh feature when you’re viewing the desktop; disable start-up processes of some programs that prolong boot-up; and always update your computer.
make sure that your drive c: have at least 2gb free space.
good, updated antivirus (some virus slows down ur pc)
a large RAM
uninstall programs or software that you do not use.
Increase your RAM, scan your hard-disks at times,
defragment your drives to fasten data access, lessen the programs or files on your desktop.
do avoid the start-up of programs at Windows start-up which are not used frequently
if you download a lot of music or pictures those slow your computer down substantaly
i would say just delete the ones you arn’t using
picutes take up a lot more memory than you’d think
Get rid of any programs you dont use often. That takes up a lot of space. You can also make sure your desktop is clean by gettin anti-virus software too.
get rid of junk files (use a free program like CCleaner for this)…get rid of registry entries that aren’t needed (there are programs that do this for you…some of them free)…defrag hard drive…defrag (or compact) registry (once again there are programs that do this for you, some of them free)
It is very easy actually to boost up your computer , jus delete all the useless files in your hard disk , and run a Defrag , and install a Up to date Anti Virus , to secure all your data from corrupting
Try upgrade some hardware too , like RAM , HDD , Cooler
