Is There An Easy Way To Tell If My Desktop Computer Usb Port Is High Speed?

Submitted by admin on October 5, 2009 – 2:02 am6 Comments

I bought a high speed usb hub but unless the port I plug it into is high speed, the hub does not become high speed I was told.
Is there an easy way to tell if I already have a high speed port in my desktop.
My desk is built around my computer and its a problem getting behind the computer to see the ports.
My computer is 3 years old.

To check your USB Ports, Right click ” my computer” then select “Manage”, then under “System Tools” select “Device Manager” then, expand the “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”, there you can find if you have USB2.
Your Hub will work fine in your current ports, even it says ” not become high speed”, it is just a matter of milliseconds difference…

Yes go to Start/system/ device manager/universal serial bus host controller If you see in that branch the words standard enhanced then you have it If you see only standard then you dont. Another way is to look up your computer on your mfgrs web site and look on there spec sheet That will also tell you ( enhanced = usb 2.0)

Well, it’s not too hard to find out if your PC has Hi-Speed (USB 2.0) or not. Right click “My Computer” select “Properties” (or from Control Panel go to “System”) then select the “Hardware” tab. Locate and expand the Universal Serial Bus section.
If it shows an “Enhanced” USB Host Controller, then you have USB 2.0 capability. If not, then you have the slower USB 1.0 or 1.1

try plugging something into the usb hub… it it’s low speed a window will pop up and tell you that it can run faster

i think you can just go go to start, explore, and then on the left look for your device, go to it, right click on it, go to properties, and get ready to shut the device down, and then see if it says high speed or not. it might be the computer thats not high speed, and u might have to download additional software to it to make the usb drive high speed.
