definitly, i recommend creating 4 new folders on your desktop and label them in categories, stick all the short cuts and files in each, problem solved, and an even quicker way to find your stuff.
Not really.. there’s only dad who say that!! lol
Most of the time it’s start-ups that slow down your computer…
They usually uses lot of Ram…
Try Upgrading your Virtual Memory if you don’t want stop some start-up
Desktop Icons don’t slow your computer down it’s stuff running in the background like an antivirus such as Norton that will slow up the start up while they determin if they are running properly
hi there
no,adding more icons will just clutter up your desktop but will not affect your p.c,s overall speed and performance
you need to remember that desktop icons are basically just shortcuts from the original program or file, and can be deleted from the desktop when no longer needed
some guys use 2 displays(2 x monitors) and have the icons on display 1 and have the display 2 free for other tasks
good lcuk mate !
Yes, but what mostly slows down the computer is all the programs loaded in startup which automatically start when windows starts. I turn off everything possible using Run command “msconfig.”!
Not directly.
It’s the installation of software applications that require certain kind of start-up that slows down the computer start-up. If you’ve installed many things and allowed some kind of tracker, with an icon shown in the system tray, then even if you don’t have relevant desktop icons, the computer start-up is still slower.
One way to speed up is to customize the installation without checking automatic monitoring etc. Or you may be able to change the application properties to realize this.
no!
these are shortcuts.
it is active background programs that slow it down.
these include media players, printer software, adobe reader, anti virus, and lots of other applications.
Many of these programs place icons on the desktop, the more automatically they do this, without an option, the more likely its a “vigorous” program, that also adds itself to the start up list, and “monitors” and waits. Not in a spyware way, but a media play for example, will be called on to “read/play” clips you see on the net, so they run ready. Most programs have settings menu’s to deactivate auto start up. You can also edit these in windows.
“real player” & “quicktime” (apple, ipod etc) are the worst ones for system hogging.
The desktop is a great place to place files/shortcuts. This is not the problem, but adding lots of programs…is!
no, icon’s shouldn’t. but the programs that run on start-up and often have icons in your task bar(the lower right corner of your screen) do slow down startup.
It depends. Just icons,I don’t think so. Start up programs on the other hand- such as anti-virus programs, quickplay- stuff like that, then yes. You can turn them off though.

No, adding more desktop icons does not slow down your computer on start up.
They’re shortcuts and not running processes.

i don’t know as I have always had loads of desktop icons. LOADS.
No. The icons are just shortcuts to the programs. Putting programs in the start up slows your computer.

yes, i only have the recycle bin on the desktop and its a lot faster. Im not an expert, but an exptert told me it would be better.
hope this helps.

I heard that it does, but I don’t see much of a difference. Some other factors you might want to consider: disk cleanup and disk defragment.
yes, but very slightly
anything added to your computer takes memory, which reduces its capabilities
Yes. So does window blinds and start up screens.
