What Are The Ways I Can Install Windows 7 Upgrade Edition On A New Pc?
Microsoft are offering students Windows 7 upgrade for £30 but I am building a new PC soon. I have a vista OEM key from my old dell but I’ve heard its bound to the motherboard. Are there any ways I can find a loophole to let me install the upgrade edition on a brand new custom built PC?

No one has the upgrade media yet to know exactly how they work.
You should still be able to activate Vista, even if you have to use the phone activation. Once the upgrade discs see that you can do what you want.
Supposedly the upgrade discs will recognize the activated Windows 7 Release Candidate as a prior genuine version as well. If you have that around, you could possibly use that more conveniently. They’re still giving out free keys for it too — they’ve just stopped the downloads direct from Microsoft.
And otherwise, as good as the student discount is, you might want to track down the OEM version of Windows 7 instead. Assuming you’re buying hardware to build your own PC, you shouldn’t have a problem qualifying for it.
Just install Vista and try to activate it. If it doesn’t work via the internet, then use the dial in number to activate it. I’ve done this many times with OEM installs at home as I upgrade over the years. Have a pen and paper ready to go or have your activation screen ready to enter to long key you get from the phone system!
Once that is loaded, you will have the choice to Upgrade or Clean install with your media. In order to clean install, you need to launch the upgrade process from within Vista though.
To tell the truth… not really. The way I’m getting my free copy of Windows 7 is by reinstalling the re-registering my windows vista product key. I’ve formatted my hard drive after running windows 7 beta and reinstalled my Vista Ultimate copy again.
I bought the copy of vista ultimate about 2 yrs ago.
By the way if you’re not using vista key on your old computer, you shouldn’t have any problems. If you do have problems just email Microsoft with that problem and they should take care of the lock for ya.
